Oracle Java audit defense: flagship program

End-to-end audit response, technical rebuild, settlement negotiation, and forward licensing. Our most comprehensive Java engagement.

HomeServicesJava Flagship

When Oracle's Java audit program moved to the employee-based metric in 2023, it created the largest commercial exposure most enterprises had ever faced from a Java estate. The flagship engagement is the program for enterprises facing a current Java audit, a recently received notice, or a known exposure they want to remediate before Oracle finds it.

What the program covers

Four phases, end to end. Response control with Oracle, with all communications routed through a single point of contact. Technical rebuild of the Java footprint, distinguishing Oracle JDK from OpenJDK and alternative distributions. Settlement negotiation with the audit team, typically across three rounds. And forward licensing structure, ensuring the same exposure does not recur at the next audit.

Why flagship versus standard

Standard audit defense covers a single audit. The flagship engagement covers the audit plus the surrounding commercial conversation Oracle is increasingly attaching to Java findings: ULA proposals, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure commitments, and bundled Database licensing. Customers facing only an audit can use the standard service. Customers where the audit is being used by Oracle as an entry point for broader commercial pressure need the flagship structure.

Engagement structure

  • Phase one, response intake and contract review (week one to two)
  • Phase two, independent technical measurement (week two to four)
  • Phase three, position document and Oracle response (week four to six)
  • Phase four, settlement negotiation (week six to twelve)
  • Phase five, forward licensing and OpenJDK migration plan (week twelve onward)

What to expect

Settlement reductions on Oracle Java audit findings typically range from 70 to 95 percent against the original claim, with the variance driven by how much real exposure exists in the deployment versus how much is measurement artefact. The forward licensing structure usually includes OpenJDK migration on 60 to 90 percent of the estate, removing the employee-metric exposure permanently for the migrated portion.
